Craig is located on Prince of Wales Island in southern southeast Alaska. Craig is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, the nation's largest national forest. It offers unique chances to view eagles, bears, spawning salmon, and the breath-taking vistas of "wild" Alaska.

This island is the third largest island in the United States! The two larger islands are Kodiak Island and the big island of Hawaii.
Craig Millar, the town's namesake, founded Craig in 1902. Incorporated in 1922, Craig is the largest city on Prince of Wales Island and plays host to people visiting for shopping, business, tourism, and commercial fishing.

Because of Craig's geographical location and size, the officers perform duties in both patrol and investigations. The Department operates from a modern facility that includes a computerized dispatch center and records management system.
The average winter temperature in Craig is 18 to 44 degrees with occasional snow. The average summer temperature is 50 to 75 degrees with an annual rainfall of approximately 120 inches.
The Craig Police Department is located at 506 Second Street directly behind the Craig Child Care Center.
