Boat Haulout Project |

The City of Craig recently took delivery of a self-propelled boat haulout trailer. The trailer is capable of moving boats up to 60 tons and 50-60 feet long from the water to an upland location where they can be blocked up to make repairs, do maintenance and arrange long term storage of their boats. Having this option on Prince of Wales will make it easier and less expensive for boat owners to work on their boats and will allow fishermen to get back on the fishing grounds faster.
At the JT Brown Industrial Park in Craig the city has built a wash down area and an upland work area with water and electrical power available. The trailer, the wash down and the work area were funded by the State of Alaska through a legislative grant, the Economic Development Administration, the Forest Service through the Economic Recovery Program, and the City of Craig. The trailer was built by Brownell Boat Trailers of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. The Craig Harbor Department will operate the trailer and the work area.
