Burn Pit Notice Pertaining to PLASTIC

Recently there has been an increase in people throwing plastic into the burn pit.  This includes people using trash bags, which are plastic, into the pit, burning what they claim to be legal items inside the plastic trash bags.  This is not allowed.  Burnable items being placed into a plastic bag, and then tossing the plastic bag with the burnable items into the burn pit is a violation under city code and is prohibited.

Per city code and DEC, no plastics may be burned.  If you have burnable items, put them in a cardboard box and then burn the box with the items inside.

No plastic OF ANY TYPE are allowed.  No styrofoam items are allowed.  Read the sign carefully, which clearly states what can be put into the burn pit.

If you see violators, report them.  If this type of activity continues, DEC could shut down our burn pit.  This is going to take the entire community to keep our burn pit open.

City's policy, regardless of whom is caught putting illegal items into the burn pit, they will be issued a citation.  There are no warnings.
